Case Study: Advancing Climate Strategy and Disclosure for Listed Companies and Financial Institutions

Background
Since 2018, when the Task Force on Climate‑related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) framework was first introduced, we have supported both listed companies and financial institutions in integrating climate considerations into governance, risk management, and strategic decision‑making.
Our climate practice covers the full spectrum of disclosure and decarbonisation support — having completed over a dozen Science‑Based Target (SBT) setting and Scope 3 GHG accounting projects, alongside CDP disclosure advisory for regional and global clients.
With the launch of IFRS S2 Climate‑related Disclosures and the strengthened HKEX ESG Code, we have helped boards and sustainability committees understand the strategic and financial implications of climate‑related risks and opportunities, ensuring readiness for evolving regulatory and investor expectations.
Challenges
- Evolving disclosure landscape: The transition from TCFD guidance to IFRS S2 has created uncertainty for both corporates and financial institutions regarding disclosure depth and comparability.
- Data and analytical limitations: Many organisations lacked structured data and internal tools to conduct robust Scenario Analysis or quantify Scope 3 emissions.
- Governance and awareness gaps: Board members needed better understanding of how physical and transition risks translate into business and financial exposure.
Our Approach
- Governance alignment and capacity‑building
- Delivered board and executive briefings for both listed issuers and financial institutions on climate governance, accountability, and disclosure responsibilities under IFRS S2 and HKEX requirements.
- Integrated climate‑risk oversight into existing Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and sustainability governance structures.
- Comprehensive climate analytics
- Partnered with Unwritten, a leading quantitative scenario platform, to perform advanced climate scenario analysis based on authoritative global datasets (NGFS, IEA pathways).
- Combined quantitative findings with qualitative risk frameworks to generate insight‑driven narratives tailored to each client’s sectors and exposures.
- Disclosure integration and decarbonisation planning
- Supported SBT‑aligned target setting and Scope 3 GHG inventories to underpin credible transition plans.
- Provided CDP Climate disclosure advisory and HKEX / IFRS S2 gap assessments to ensure consistent, investor‑ready reporting.
- Produced disclosure templates and workflows for ongoing internal use, simplifying future reporting cycles.
Outcome
- Unmatched climate expertise: With more than a dozen completed projects covering SBTs, Scope 3 GHG accounting, CDP advisory, and regulatory compliance, we are recognised as a regional leader in climate strategy and disclosure advisory.
- Regulatory alignment: Our clients’ climate disclosures now align seamlessly with HKEX, IFRS S2 and TCFD requirements, meeting “comply or explain” standards while enhancing stakeholder confidence.
- Informed leadership: Boards and senior executives now possess practical understanding of how climate‑related risks influence corporate value, resilience, and financial planning.
- Scalable framework: Through our partnership with Unwritten, clients can routinely update climate‑scenario outputs and integrate them into future disclosures, ensuring long‑term compliance and strategic foresight.
